Acura RL (1996-2004 year). Manual — part 538
Check the TCS control valve sen-
sor:
1. Remove the intake air duct
).
2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
3. Connect the battery and TCS
control valve actuator (see
page
).
4. Measure the voltage between
the TCS control unit HP con-
nector terminal No. 6 and
body ground.
TCS CONTROL UNIT 14P CONNECTOR
Wire side of female terminals
Is the voltage as specified?
Fully closed: about 0.5 V
Fully open: about 4.5 V
NOTE: There should be a smooth
transition from about 4.5 V and
0.5 V as the TCS control valve is
closed.
Check for an open in the wire
between the TCS control unit
and TCS control valve sensor.
If the wire is OK, replace the TCS
control valve assembly (faulty
TCS control valve sensor) and
recheck.
The system is OK at this time.
If the problem recurs, replace
the TCS control unit.

Wheel Sensor Diagnosis
The TCS indicator light comes on when the average speed of either the right or left rear wheels exceeds 9 mph (15 km/h)
and the ABS control unit signal stops for more than 3 seconds.
With engine running, TCS indi-
cator light is ON.
ABS indicator light is OFF.
With the SCS service connec-
tor connected (see page
4-8 are indicated.
NOTE: When both the TCS indicator
light and the ABS indicator light are ON,
troubleshoot the ABS first.

TCS CONTROL UNIT 14P CONNECTOR
Check for an short to body ground
in the FRP, FLP, RRP and/or RLP
circuit:
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect the TCS control
unit 14P and ABS control unit
26P or 22P connectors.
3. Check for continuity between
the TCS control unit 14P con-
nector appropriate terminal*
and body ground.
Is there continuity?
Repair short to body ground in
the wire between the TCS con-
trol unit and ABS control unit.
Wire side of female terminals
Check the TCS control unit:
1. Connect the TCS control unit
connector.
2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
3. Measure the voltage between
the TCS control unit connec-
tor appropriate terminal* and
body ground.
Is there about 5 V?
Check for loose TCS control unit
connectors. If necessary, substi-
tute a known-good TCS control
unit and recheck.

ABS Down
Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 4-9: ABS Down Diagnosis
The TCS indicator light comes on when the vehicle is stopped, the engine is running, and the signals from all four wheels
are disconnected for more than 5 seconds.
NOTE: When the TCS indicator light does not come on but DTC 4-9 is memorized, the cause may be that the vehicle was
driven with the ABS B2 (15 A) fuse removed or the DTC was not erased after troubleshooting the ABS. Test-drive the vehi-
cle again, and check whether the indicator light comes on. If the indicator light does not come on, the system is OK. Erase
the DTC.
Does the ABS indicator light
come on?
Perform the ABS troubleshooting.
Check for loose ABS control unit
connectors. If they are OK and
the problem recurs, replace the
TCS control unit.
Check for ABS indicator light:
Start the engine.
With engine running or driv-
ing, TCS indicator light is ON.

tor connected (see page
