Anti-freeze Coolant Mixture Ratio
NHMA0006S03
The engine cooling system is filled at the factory with a high-quality,
year-round, anti-freeze coolant solution. The anti-freeze solution
contains rust and corrosion inhibitors. Therefore, additional cooling
system additives are not necessary.
CAUTION:
When adding or replacing coolant, be sure to use only Genu-
ine Nissan Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant or equivalent with the
proper mixture ratio of 50% anti-freeze and 50% demineralized
water/distilled water.
Other types of coolant solutions may damage your cooling
system.

Checking Drive Belts
NHMA0007
SMA171D
1.
Inspect belts for cracks, fraying, wear and oil. If necessary,
replace.
2.
Inspect drive belt deflection or tension at a point on the belt
midway between pulleys.
I
Check belt tension using belt tension gauge (BT3373-F or
equivalent).
I
Inspect drive belt deflection or tension when engine is
cold.
Adjust if belt deflection exceeds the limit or if belt tension is
not within specifications.
I
Drive belt tension can also be checked at other points on
the belts.

Changing Engine Coolant
NHMA0008
WARNING:
To avoid the danger of being scalded, never change the cool-
ant when the engine is hot.
— DRAINING ENGINE COOLANT —
NHMA0008S01
1.
Set air conditioning system as follows to prevent coolant from
remaining in the system.
a.
Turn ignition switch ON and set temperature controller to maxi-
mum hot position.
b.
Wait 10 seconds before turning ignition switch OFF.
SMA033DA
2.
Open radiator drain plug at the bottom of radiator, and remove
radiator cap.
I
Be careful not to allow coolant to contact drive belts.
SMA953CA
When draining all the coolant in the system, also perform the two
following steps.
1)
Remove drain plugs on both sides of cylinder block.
2)
Check drained coolant for contaminants such as rust, corro-
sion or discoloration. If contaminated flush engine cooling
system, refer to “FLUSHING COOLING SYSTEM”, MA-15.
— REFILLING ENGINE COOLANT —
NHMA0008S02
1.
Install reservoir tank if removed, and radiator drain plug.
2.
Close and tighten cylinder block drain plugs securely if
removed.
I
Apply sealant to the thread of cylinder block drain plugs.
Use Genuine Thread Sealant or equivalent. Refer to GI-53.
