STEP 2. M.U.T.-III data list
• Refer to Data List Reference Table
.
a. Item No. 78: Accelerator pedal position sen-
sor (main)
b. Item No. 77: Accelerator pedal position sen-
sor (sub)
Q: Are the check results normal?
YES :
Replace engine-ECU.
NO :
Perform the diagnosis code classified check
procedure for the sensor that has shown an
abnormal data value (Refer to Inspection
Chart for Diagnosis Code
Code No. P1238: Air Flow Sensor Trustful For Torque Monitoring
FUNCTION
• Compare the actual measurement of volumetric
efficiency by an air flow sensor signal with volu-
metric efficiency estimated from a throttle position
sensor (main or sub) signal.
TROUBLE JUDGMENT
Check Conditions
• Ignition switch is in "ON" position.
• While engine is running.
• Throttle position sensor (main or sub) is normal.
Judgment Criteria
• The difference between volumetric efficiency esti-
mated from the throttle position sensor (main)
and volumetric efficiency estimated from the
throttle position sensor (sub) exceeds the speci-
fied value.
• The difference between volumetric efficiency
(actual measurement) by the air flow sensor and
volumetric efficiency estimated from the throttle
position sensor (main) exceeds the specified
value.
• The difference between volumetric efficiency
(actual measurement) by the air flow sensor and
volumetric efficiency estimated from the throttle
position sensor (sub) exceeds the specified
value.
PROBABLE CAUSES
• Failed air flow sensor
• Damage in air flow sensor circuit or loose con-
nector contact
• Failed intake air system
• Failed engine-ECU
DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. M.U.T.-III diagnosis code
Q: Is any other diagnosis code than P1238 output?
YES :
Inspection chart for diagnosis code (Refer
to
NO :
Go to Step 2 .
STEP 2. M.U.T.-III data list
• Refer to Data List Reference Table
.
a. Item No. 12: Air flow sensor
Q: Is the check result normal?

Code No. P1239: Trustful Check Engine Speed
FUNCTION
• Compare the actual engine speed through the
crank angle sensor signal trip with the assumed
engine speed through the crank angle sensor sig-
nal pulse number after the specified period.
TROUBLE JUDGMENT
Check Condition
• While engine is running.
Judgment Criterion
• Difference is more than 500 r/min between actual
engine speed and supposed engine speed.
PROBABLE CAUSE
• Failed engine-ECU
DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. M.U.T.-III diagnosis code
• After clearing the diagnosis code through
M.U.T.-III, start the engine and confirm whether
the diagnosis code is output.
Q: Diagnosis code set?
YES :
Replace engine-ECU.
NO :
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP
00
− How to Use
Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points
−
How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions
).
Code No. P1240: Trustful Check Engine Speed <Vehicle with ASC>
FUNCTION
• The ignition timing retard request signal is abnor-
mal from ASC-ECU.
TROUBLE JUDGMENT
Check Condition
• Ignition switch is "ON" position.
Judgment Criterion
• Retard request signal for ignition timing is abnor-
mal.
PROBABLE CAUSES
• Failed ASC-ECU
• Failed CAN
• Failed engine-ECU
DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. M.U.T.-III diagnosis code
Q: Is diagnosis code related with CAN communication
displayed?
YES :
Inspection chart for diagnosis code (Refer
to
NO :
Go to Step 2 .
STEP 2. M.U.T.-III other system diagnosis code
• Confirm whether the diagnosis codes are output
from ASC-ECU.
Q: Is the diagnosis code output?
YES :
Perform the troubleshooting of ASC (Refer
to Group 35C
