MULTIPORT FUEL INJECTION (MPI) <4G1>

FUNCTION

• The oil feeder control valve controls the phase

angle of the intake camshaft by the signal from
the engine-ECU.

TROUBLE JUDGEMENT

Check Conditions

• Ignition switch is in "ON" position.

• Oil feeder control valve is in OFF position.

Judgement Criterion

• For 4 seconds, driving voltage of oil feeder con-

trol valve in engine ECU is abnormal.

PROBABLE CAUSES

• Failed oil feeder control valve

• Open/short circuit in or damage to the oil feeder

control valve circuit, or loose connector contact

• Failed engine-ECU

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Connector check: A-101 oil feeder
control valve connector

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

Go to Step 2.

NO :

Repair or replace.

STEP 2. Check oil feeder control valve.

• Check oil feeder control valve (Refer to

P.13B-369

).

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

Go to Step 3.

NO :

Replace the oil feeder control valve.

STEP 3. Perform voltage measurement at A-101
oil feeder control valve connector.

Disconnect connector, and measure at harness side.

• Ignition switch: ON

• Voltage between terminal No. 1 and earth.

OK: System voltage

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

Go to Step 5.

NO :

Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Connector check: B-106 engine control
relay connector

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

Check the intermediate connectors A-17

and B-112, and repair them if necessary. If
the intermediate connectors are normal,
check and repair the harness between
B-106 (terminal No. 4) engine control relay
connector and A-101 (terminal No. 1) oil
feeder control valve connector

• Check power supply line for

open/short circuit.

NO :

Repair or replace.

STEP 5. Perform voltage measurement at A-114
engine-ECU connector.

Disconnect connector and measure at harness side.

• Ignition switch: ON

• Voltage between terminal No. 52 and earth.

OK: System voltage

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

Go to Step 7.

NO :

Go to Step 6.

STEP 6. Connector check: B-114 engine-ECU
connector

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

Check and repair the harness between

A-101 (terminal No. 2) oil feeder control
valve connector and A-114 (terminal No. 52)
engine-ECU connector.

• Check output line for open/short

circuit.

NO :

Repair or replace.

STEP 7. Connector check: B-106 engine control
relay connector

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

Go to Step 8.

NO :

Repair or replace.

STEP 8. Check harness between B-106 (terminal
No. 4) engine control relay connector and A-101
(terminal No. 1) oil feeder control valve
connector.

NOTE: Before checking harness, check intermediate
connectors A-17 and B-112, and repair them if nec-
essary.

• Check power supply line for damage.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

Go to Step 9.

NO :

Repair.

STEP 9. Connector check: A-114 engine-ECU
connector

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

Go to Step 10.

NO :

Repair or replace.
