Fuel Supply System
Fuel Pressure Regulator (cont'd)
Removal
Do not smoke while working on fuel sys-
tem. Keep open flame away from your work area.
1. Remove the strut bar.
2. Remove the engine cover.
3. Relieve fuel pressure (page
).
4. Disconnect the vacuum hose and fuel return hose.
5. Loosen the locking nut, and remove the fuel pres-
sure regulator.
WASHER
O-RING
Replace.
LOCKING NUT
29 N-m (3.0 kgf-m,
22 Ibf-ft)
Reassembly
1. Install the fuel pressure regulator in the fuel rail. Turn
it by hand until it stops.
2. Turn the fuel pressure regulator counterclockwise to
set the angle as shown.
3. Tighten the locking nut.
FUEL RAIL
NOTE:
• Replace the O-ring.
• When assembling the fuel pressure regulator,
apply clean engine oil to the O-ring and assem-
ble it into its proper position, taking care not to
damage the O-ring.

Is there manifold vacuum?
Disconnect the 4P connector

YES
Is there vacuum?
Check the Fuel Pressure Regula-
tor Control Solenoid Valve:
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect the 4P connector
from the control box.
3. Connect battery positive to
terminal No. 4 and battery
negative to terminal No. 3 on
the 4P connector.
4. Start the engine and allow it
to idle.
YES
Check the No. 1 and No. 3 vacu-
um hose. If hoses are OK, replace
the fuel pressure regulator con-
trol solenoid valve.
Inspect for a short to ground in
wire between PCM (A10) and the
4P connector. If the wire is OK,
substitute a known-good PCM
and recheck (see page
for
immobilizer information). If symp-
tom goes away, replace the orig-
inal PCM.

Inspection of Fuel Pressure Regu-
lator Control Solenoid Valve.
Check for vacuum at idle:
1. Start the engine. Hold the
engine at 3,000 rpm with no
load (in Park or neutral) until
the radiator fan comes on.
2. Disconnect the No. 1 vacuum
hose from the fuel pressure
regulator and connect a vac-
uum gauge to the hose.

YES
Check for an open in the circuit:
1. Stop the engine.
2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
3. Measure voltage between

Problem verification:
1. Start the engine. Hold the
engine at 3,000 rpm with no
load (in Park or neutral) until
the radiator fan comes on,
then let it idle for at least one
minute.
2. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
3. Disconnect No. 21 hose from
the install pipe, and connect a
vacuum pump to the hose.
4. Apply vacuum 27 to 40 kpa
(200 to SOOmmHg, 8 to 12
in.Hg).
5. Start the engine.
6. Hold engine speed at 6,500
