Troubleshooting
DTC 2-1: Parking Brake (cont'd)
) ABS CONTROL UNIT 26P CONNECTOR
Does the brake system light
go off?
Problem verification:
Test-drive the vehicle at speeds
of 6 mph (10 km/h) or more for
more than 30 seconds.
Wire side of female terminals
Does the ABS indicator light
come on?
The probable cause was driving
with the parking brake applied
for more than 30 seconds.
Check for an open in the PARK cir-
cuit:
Measure the voltage between the
ABS control unit 26P connector
terminal No. 11 and body ground.
Is there battery voltage?
Repair open in the wire between
the gauge assembly and ABS con-
trol unit.
Is the level is correct?
Check the front brake pad thick-
ness and brake system for leaks.
If there are no problems, refill the
master cylinder reservoir to the
correct level.
Replace the ABS control unit.
(Open circuit inside the unit)
Check the brake fluid level in the
master cylinder reservoir.
Check the parking brake switch:
Release the parking brake pedal.

Check the brake fluid level switch:
Disconnect the brake fluid level
switch connectors.
Does the brake system light go off?
Replace the brake fluid level
switch. (Switch stuck ON)
Is the switch OK?
Replace the parking brake switch.
(Switch stuck ON)
Check for a short to body ground
in the PARK circuit:
Disconnect the ABS control unit
26P connector.
Does the brake system light
go off?
Replace the ABS control unit.
(Short to body ground inside the
unit)
Repair short to body ground in
the wire between the brake sys-
tem light, parking brake switch
and brake fluid level switch.
Check the parking brake switch
(see page 19-8).

Troubleshooting
DTC 3-1, 3-2, 3-4, 3-8: Pulser, DTC 3-12: Different Diameter Tire
DTC 3-1, 3-2, 3-4, 3-8: Pulser
The ABS control unit monitors the wheel sensor signals during the regular diagnosis (during driving). It turns the ABS indi-
cator light on if it detects a periodic change in the wheel sensor signal of each wheel caused by a chipped pulser gear, etc.
Possible causes:
Chipped pulser gear
Improperly installed wheel sensor

DTC 3-12: Different Diameter Tire
The ABS control unit detects the wheel sensor signal speed during the regular diagnosis (during driving). This diagnosis is
not performed when the parking brake switch signal is ON. The ABS control unit may turn the ABS indicator light on when
one or more different diameter tires are installed.

DTC 4-1 (Right-front), 4-2 (Left-front), 4-4 (Right-rear), 4-8 (Left-rear):
Wheel Sensor
The ABS control unit monitors the wheel sensor signal during the regular diagnosis (at speeds of 6 mph (10 km/h) or
more). This diagnosis is not performed when the parking brake signal is ON. The ABS control unit turns the ABS indicator
light on if it detects that there is no wheel sensor signal from the wheel.
Possible causes:
Open circuit, internal short or short to body ground in the wheel sensor
Open circuit or short to body ground in the positive (+) wire between the wheel sensor and ABS control unit
Open circuit or short to body ground in the negative (-) wire between the wheel sensor and ABS control unit
Positive (+) wire shorted to the negative (-) wire between the wheel sensor and ABS control unit
Loose connector or poor contact of terminals
Improper wheel sensor air gap
Faulty ABS control unit
Missing or damaged pulser
Modulator does not decrease pressure properly
Wheel lock by downshift
Is the resistance as specified?
— Front: 700-1,100
— Rear: 1,400-2,000
Check the continuity of the wheel
sensor:
Check for continuity between the
appropriate wheel sensor 2P con-
nector terminal No. 2 and body
ground.
Is there continuity?

With the SCS service connec-
tor connected (see page
),
DTCs 4-1, 4-2, 4-4 and/or 4-8
are indicated.
Check the wheel sensor resis-
tance:
1. Disconnect the appropriate
