Acura RL (1996-2004 year). Manual — part 385
The scan tool indicates Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1107: A low voltage problem in the Baro sensor circuit.
The scan tool indicates Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1108: A high voltage problem in the Baro sensor
circuit.
— The MIL has been reported on.
— DTC P1107 or P1108 is stored.
Problem verification:
1. Do the PCM Reset Procedure.
2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
Is DTC P1108 indicated?
NO
Substitute a known-good PCM
and recheck (see page
for
immobilizer information). If symp-
tom/indication goes away, replace
the original PCM.
Is DTC P1107 indicated?
NO
(With TCS only)
YES
Intermittent failure, system is OK
at this time.
Check for poor connections or
loose wires at C444 (located
behind right kick panel), C624
(TCS control unit) and PCM.
Check for a short in the wire
(BARO OUT line):
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect the PCM connec-
tor D (22P).
3. Disconnect the 20P connector
from the TCS control unit.
4. Check for continuity between
body ground and PCM con-
nector terminal D3.

Is there continuity?
Repair short in the wire between
PCM (D3) and TCS control unit.
Wire side of female terminals
NO
Substitute a known-good TCS
control unit and recheck.
Is DTC P1107 indicated?
Replace the original TCS control
unit.

Substitute a known-good PCM
and recheck (see page
for
immobilizer information). If symp-
tom/indication goes away, replace
the original PCM.

DTC P1486 can set occasionally when the hood is opened.
— The MIL has been reported on.
— DTC P1486 is stored.
1. Turn the ignition Switch OFF.
2. Check the engine coolant
level.
Is the engine coolant level low?
Does the radiator fan keep
running?
YES
Check the radiator fan circuit,
radiator fan switch circuit and
the radiator fan switch.
It they are OK, substitute the
PCM and recheck (see page
for immobilizer information).
If the symptom/indication goes
away, replace the original PCM.
Refill the engine coolant. If neces-
sary, check the cooling system.
Test the thermostat.

Check for the radiator for circuit:
1. Turn the ignition switch ON
(II).
2. Check the radiator fan.

Idle Control System
System Description
The idle speed of the engine is controlled by the Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve.
The valve changes the amount of air bypassing into the intake manifold in response to electric current controlled by the
PCM. When the IAC Valve is activated, the valve opens to maintain the proper idle speed.

SENSORS
INTAKE
MANIFOLD
IDLE
ADJUSTING
SCREW
1. After the engine starts, the IAC valve opens for a certain time. The amount of air is increased to raise the idle speed
about 150 - 300 rpm.
2. When the coolant temperature is low, the IAC valve is opened to obtain the proper fast idle speed. The amount of
bypassed air is thus controlled in relation to the engine coolant temperature.
3. When the idle speed is out of specification and the scan tool does not indicate Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0505 or
P1508, check the following items:
• Adjust the idle speed (see page
• Air conditioning signal (see page
• Starter switch signal (see page
• Transmission range signal (see
• Brake pedal position switch signal (see page
• Idle air control thermal valve (see page
• Hoses and connections
• IAC valve and its mounting O-rings
4. If the above items are normal, substitute a known-good IAC valve and readjust the idle speed (see page
).
If the idle speed still cannot be adjusted to specification (and the scan tool does not indicate DTC P0505 or P1508) after
IAC valve replacement, substitute a known-good PCM and recheck (see page
for immobilizer information). If
symptom goes away, replace the original PCM.
