TIRES AND WHEELS

Tire care

For propür maintünancü, saýüty, and

maximum ýuül üconomy, you must al‐

ways maintain rücommündüd tirü inýla‐

tion prüssurüs and stay within thü load

limits and wüiþht distribution rücom‐

mündüd ýor your vühiclü.

Recommended cold tire inflation

pressures

All tirü prüssurüs (includinþ thü sparü)

should bü chücküd whün thü tirüs arü

cold. Cold Tirüs müans thü vühiclü has

not büün drivün ýor at lüast thrüü hours

or drivün lüss than 1.6 km (1 milü).

Rücommündüd prüssurüs must bü

maintainüd ýor thü büst ridü, top vühi‐

clü handlinþ, and minimum tirü wüar.

For rücommündüd inýlation prüssurü,

rüýür to Tirüs and whüüls on paþü

9-09.

All spüciýications (sizüs and prüssurüs)

can bü ýound on a labül attachüd to thü

vühiclü.

WARNING

n Tire underinflation

Severe

underinflation

(70

kPa

(10 psi) or more) can lead to severe

heat build-up, causing blowouts,

tread separation and other tire fail‐

ures that can result in the loss of ve‐

hicle control leading to severe injury
(Continued)

(Continued)

or death. This risk is much higher on

hot days and when driving for long

periods at high speeds.

CAUTION

• Underinflation also results in ex‐

cessive wear, poor handling and

reduced fuel economy. Wheel de‐

formation also is possible. Keep

your tire pressures at the proper

levels. If a tire frequently needs

refilling, have the system checked

by a professional workshop. Kia

recommends to visit an authorized

Kia dealer/service partner.

• Overinflation produces a harsh

ride, excessive wear at the center

of the tire tread, and a greater

possibility of damage from road

hazards.

Maintünancü

8-54

CAUTION

• Warm tires normally exceed rec‐

ommended cold tire pressures by

28 to 41 kPa (4 to 6 psi). Do not

release air from warm tires to ad‐

just the pressure or the tires will

be underinflated.

• Be sure to reinstall the tire infla‐

tion valve caps. Without the valve

cap, dirt or moisture could get into

the valve core and cause air leak‐

age. If a valve cap is missing, in‐

stall a new one as soon as possi‐

ble.

WARNING

n Tire Inflation

Overinflation or underinflation can

reduce tire life, adversely affect ve‐

hicle handling, and lead to sudden

tire failure. This could result in loss

of vehicle control and potential in‐

jury.

CAUTION

n Tire pressure

Always observe the following:

• Check tire pressure when the tires

are cold. (After vehicle has been

parked for at least three hours or

hasn't been driven more than

1.6 km (one mile) since startup.)

• Check the pressure of your spare

tire each time you check the pres‐

sure of other tires.

• Never overload your vehicle. Be

careful not to overload a vehicle

luggage rack if your vehicle is

equipped with one.

• Worn, old tires can cause acci‐

dents. If your tread is badly worn,

or if your tires have been dam‐

aged, replace them.

WARNING

• Inspect your tires frequently for

proper inflation as well as wear

and damage. Always use a tire

pressure gauge.

• Tires with too much or too little

pressure wear unevenly causing

poor handling, loss of vehicle con‐

trol, and sudden tire failure leading

to accidents, injuries, and even

death. The recommended cold tire

pressure for your vehicle can be

found in this manual and on the

tire label located on the driver's

side center pillar.

• Worn tires can cause accidents.

Replace tires that are worn, show

uneven wear, or are damaged.

• Remember to check the pressure

of your spare tire. Kia recom‐

mends that you check the spare

every time you check the pressure

of the other tires on your vehicle.

WARNING

n Replacing tires

• Driving on worn-out tires is very

hazardous and will reduce braking

effectiveness, steering accuracy,

and traction.

(Continued)

(Continued)

• Your vehicle is equipped with tires

designed to provide for safe ride

and handling capability. Do not use

a size and type of tire and wheel

that is different from the one that

is originally installed on your vehi‐

cle. It can affect the safety and

performance of your vehicle,

which could lead to handling failure

or rollover and serious injury.

When replacing the tires, be sure

to equip all four tires with the tire

and wheel of the same size, type,

tread, brand and load-carrying ca‐

pacity.

• The use of any other tire size or

type may seriously affect ride,

handling, ground clearance, stop‐

ping distance, body to tire clear‐

ance, snow tire clearance, and

speedometer reliability.

• It is best to replace all four tires at

the same time. If that is not possi‐

ble, or necessary, then replace the

two front or two rear tires as a

pair. Replacing just one tire can se‐

riously affect your vehicle’s han‐

dling.

(Continued)

(Continued)

• The ABS works by comparing the

speed of the wheels. Tire size can

affect wheel speed. When replac‐

ing tires, all 4 tires must use the

same size originally supplied with

the vehicle. Using tires of a differ‐

ent size can cause the ABS (Anti-

lock Brake System) and ESC (Elec‐

tronic Stability Control) to work ir‐

regularly.

Compact spare tire replacement (if

equipped)

WARNING

n Tire age

Tires degrade over time, even when

they are not being used. Regardless

of the remaining tread, it is recom‐

mended that tires generally be re‐

placed after six (6) years of normal

service. Heat caused by hot climates

or frequent high loading conditions

can accelerate the aging process.

Failure to follow this Warning can re‐

sult in sudden tire failure, which

could lead to a loss of control and an

accident involving serious injury or

death.

n Tire temperature

(Continued)

(Continued)

The temperature grade for this tire

is established for a tire that is prop‐

erly inflated and not overloaded. Ex‐

cessive speed, underinflation, or ex‐

cessive loading, either separately or

in combination, can cause heat build-

up and possible sudden tire failure.

This can cause loss of vehicle control

damaged. So, follow the instructions

below.

- When driving on a rough road or

off road, drive cautiously because

tires and wheels may be damaged.

And after driving, inspect tires and

wheels.

- When passing over a pothole,

speed bump, manhole or curb

stone, drive slowly so that the

tires and wheels are not damaged.

- If the tire is impacted, inspect the

tire condition or contact a profes‐

sional workshop. Kia recommends

to visit an authorized Kia dealer/

service partner.

- To prevent damage to the tire, in‐

spect the tire condition and pres‐

sure every 3,000 km.

Maintünancü

8-62

CAUTION

• It is not easy to recognize the tire

damage with your own eyes. But if

there is the slightest hint of tire

damage, even though you cannot

see the tire damage with your own

eyes, have the tire checked or re‐

placed because the tire damage

may cause air leakage from the

tire.

• If the tire is damaged by driving on

a rough road, off road, pothole,

manhole, or curb stone, it will not

be covered by the warranty.

• You can find out the tire informa‐

tion on the tire sidewall.

• Never replace a fuse with anything

but another fuse of the same rat‐

ing.

• A higher capacity fuse could cause

damage and possibly a fire.

• Never install a wire or aluminum

foil instead of the proper fuse -

even as a temporary repair. It may

cause extensive wiring damage

and a possible fire.

• Do not arbitrarily modify or add-

on electric wiring of the vehicle.
